Free, and worth doing

How the Bend Ale Trail works

The Ale Trail is a passport run by Visit Bend. It covers nearly every brewery in this guide, grouped into seven territories so you can finish one in an afternoon.

  1. Pick up a free paper passport at the Bend Visitor Center downtown, or use the free web app. There is nothing to download.
  2. Get one stamp or check-in at each stop. There is no order and no deadline, so a trail can take a weekend or a year.
  3. Finish every stop in a territory to earn that territory’s prize. There are seven territories and a bonus prize for finishing them all.
  4. Collect prizes at the Visitor Center. Designated drivers have their own prize program.

Good to know: November is Bend Ale Trail Month, with extra prizes. In fall there is also a Fresh Hop Bingo card.

Six things locals know

Drink Bend beer like you live here

Pick a neighborhood, not a list

There are more than 25 places to drink brewery beer in Bend and they are spread across town. Two or three stops in one area beats six stops and four car rides.

Pub, taproom or tasting room

A pub has a kitchen and welcomes kids. A taproom usually means food carts or no food at all, and some are 21 and over. Check the tags before you bring the family.

It is higher than you think

Bend sits at 3,600 feet. One beer feels like two, and many of the best beers here are 7 percent or more. Order the small pour and drink water.

Do not drive between stops

Downtown and the Old Mill are walkable. Everywhere else, use a rideshare or a bike. The Cycle Pub and local shuttle tours will also haul a group from tap to tap.

Fresh hop season is September and October

For a few weeks each fall, brewers make beer with hops picked that day. These beers do not travel and do not last. If you see “fresh hop” on a board, order it.

Take some home

Almost every taproom fills crowlers or sells cans to go. The small-batch beers at the pubs are often not sold anywhere else.

Not a brewery, still great beer

Yes. Deschutes Brewery runs guided tours from its Tasting Room at 901 SW Simpson Ave. They take about 45 minutes and often fill, so book online ahead of time. You must be 21 to taste.

What is the Bend Ale Trail?

A free, self-guided passport program run by Visit Bend. You collect a stamp or app check-in at each brewery, and earn a prize for every territory you finish. There are seven territories, no deadline and no required order. November is Ale Trail Month.

Did Boneyard close?

Only the pub. The Boneyard Pub on NE Division Street closed on October 11, 2026. Boneyard Beer is still brewing, and its original tasting room at 37 NW Lake Place is open Wednesday to Sunday.

When is fresh hop season in Bend?

September and October. Brewers make these beers with hops picked that day, so they are only around for a few weeks. Bevel is known for them, and most Bend breweries release at least one.

Gone but not forgotten

  • Boneyard Pub. The NE Division pub closed October 11, 2026. The Lake Place tasting room carries on.
  • Sunriver Brewing Galveston Pub. Closed November 1, 2025, after years as a westside family favorite.
  • Boss Rambler Beer Club. The Galveston patio known for hazy IPAs and slushies closed in September 2025.
  • The Ale Apothecary tasting room. Left Century Drive in May 2026. The brewery moved to Redmond with no taproom.
  • Spider City Brewing taproom. The lease on SE 9th Street ended in fall 2026. The owners say they are relocating, not closing.

Checked October 11, 2026. Hours and tap lists change, so confirm with the brewery before a special trip. Own a brewery or spot something out of date? Tell us and we will fix it.
