The full list
The best cup in town, if the cup is the point
A small specialty roaster tucked into the lobby of The Hixon on Century Drive. Light, bright single-origin coffees, house-made alternative milks and organic dairy. This is where Bend coffee people go.
Downtown's best all-around coffee stop
A Bend roaster with an industrial, relaxed room on the north edge of downtown. Great espresso, beans to take home, and Liège waffles that turn a coffee run into breakfast.
Coffee in a backyard on the river
The cedar-shake cottage on Mirror Pond that half of Bend still calls Looney Bean. Same owners and the same backyard, renamed in fall 2025 when they started roasting in-house. You can watch the roaster from the counter.
A reliable, great downtown espresso
A small, always-busy shop in an old brick building from one of Bend's best-known roasters. Thump bakes its own pastries, so grab one while you're there.
Afternoon coffee when everyone else has closed
A 1904 house on Mirror Pond next to Drake Park. Thump coffee and Sparrow pastries in the morning, beer and wine later, and one of the most Bend-feeling porches in town.
Old-school espresso bar on Wall Street
On Wall Street since 2003 and roasting its own coffee, much of it direct trade, including a 20-plus-year relationship with farms in Guatemala. Great for people-watching from the patio.
A quiet, coffee-first westside hang
A tiny independent bar pouring Portland's Coava coffee, with Metolius chai, Mizuba matcha and Sparrow pastries. Calm, friendly, and not on the tourist loop.
Bend's most-awarded local roaster
Roasting in Bend since 2006 and voted Central Oregon's Best Coffee by Source Weekly readers in 2021, 2022, 2024 and 2025. The Newport Ave café is the westside neighborhood staple.
A laptop morning with real food
Roasting organic, fair-trade coffee in Bend since 1999. Free wifi, bottomless drip, a full kitchen and seats where you can watch the roaster work.

Sisters Coffee opened its second Bend café in spring 2026 on the ground floor of the Jackstraw building. It has a high-desert design, breakfast sandwiches, house baked goods and plenty of seats.
Room for the whole group, right on the river
A big timber-lodge café along the Deschutes in the Old Mill, with bold house roasts, food and enough tables for a family or a team.
Coffee that comes with an Ocean Roll
Bakery first, coffee second, and that's the point. The Ocean Roll (croissant dough with cardamom, vanilla and sugar) is Bend's most famous pastry.
NWX coffee with room to spread out
Thump's café inside The Grove's Market Hall, with house-roasted coffee and baked goods and a food hall around you for everyone who wants something else.
Espresso and a real boiled bagel
Handmade, boiled bagels with organic ingredients plus espresso drinks. It started at the NWX farmers market and opened a second shop on Century Drive near OSU-Cascades in summer 2026.
A European-style café in the arts district
Specialty coffee, house-made baguette sandwiches and pastries including gluten-free and vegan ones, in the Old Iron Works (the old Sparrow space).
Serious coffee on the east side
Lone Pine's smaller east-side shop near St. Charles. Same beans and quality as downtown, without the downtown parking.
Books, chai and a rainy hour
A beloved independent bookstore downtown with new and used books and a coffee bar pouring lattes, espresso and three kinds of chai.
A bookstore coffee in NWX
NorthWest Crossing's independent bookshop with a café inside. It's a calm place to sit with a cup and a new book.
Try removing a filter or two. If "Open now" is on and it's evening, that's normal: The Commons, Bellatazza and (on weekends) Lone Pine are about it.
Hours were checked against each café's own site or current listings in September 2026. "Open now" uses Bend time and regular hours, so holidays, weather and seasonal changes can throw it off. Call ahead if it matters.
Park once, drink well
Five stops, a few blocks, and it ends on the river. Do the whole thing on a slow Saturday, or just pick two.
Lone Pine on Harriman. Espresso and a waffle to set you up.
Bellatazza for a cortado "for here" on the board, or a patio seat for people-watching.
Thump for a second shot. It's small, so take it to go.
Dudley's after 10am for a chai and a browse.
Walk down to Brooks St and end in Watershed's backyard on Mirror Pond. The Commons is next door if it's after 4.
Grab a pastry with those beans Take Bend home
Bend punches way above its size in roasting. Every one of these roasts its own coffee and sells whole beans at the counter.

Local knowledge
What you figure out after a few years of Bend mornings, and a few trips to cafés that turned out to be closed.
PALATE and Café des Chutes close at 2. For afternoon coffee, The Commons is open until 8 daily, Bellatazza until 7 Monday to Saturday, and Lone Pine downtown until 8 on Friday and Saturday.
Same cottage, same owners, same backyard on Mirror Pond. It was renamed in 2025 when they started roasting in-house. Older guides and some map apps still use the old name.
Spoken Moto is closed (Sisters Coffee's Jackstraw café is at that address now), Strictly Organic's Old Mill bar is closed, and Bend Mountain Coffee and Kanona are gone. If your maps app says otherwise, it's out of date.
At least eight Bend cafés roast their own coffee. Buy beans where they're roasted and ask what came off the roaster this week. It's cheaper than a T-shirt and way more Bend.
On fresh-snow weekends, the Century Drive shops get busy early and downtown cafés fill up by mid-morning. If you need a table to work, go mid-morning on a weekday.
Backporch has a drive-up on Reed Market Rd. When everyone in the back seat is finally asleep, don't unbuckle anybody.
