Start here

Bend eats a lot better than a town this size should.

A few things to know before you pick. The best kitchens here are small and owner-run, so the good tables go early and a lot of them are dark on Monday or Tuesday. Some of the best food in town comes out of a cart, and nobody here thinks twice about that. And dinner happens early. Most kitchens are done by 9, so an 8:30 reservation is a late one.

This isn’t a ranked list. Ariana, Wild Rose and a taco cart can all be the right answer on different nights. Places marked as a local pick are the ones we send friends to first.

The Monday and Tuesday problem

Who’s open tonight?

Days and hours checked against each restaurant’s own website on October 9, 2026

Showing up to a dark restaurant is a Bend rite of passage. A lot of the small places close one or two days a week, usually early in the week. Turn on “Open today” in the filters and we’ll hide the ones we know are closed.

Hours change with the season, and holidays break everything. If a day isn’t listed for a restaurant, we couldn’t confirm it, so check before you drive across town. Looking for a deal? See the Bend happy hour guide.

Worth planning ahead

Date night and chef-driven restaurants in Bend 9

The dinners you book ahead. Bend’s best kitchens are small, mostly owner-run and usually in old houses or tight downtown rooms, so a Friday table at 7 takes a week or two of notice. Sitting at the bar is the local workaround.

What’s new

New restaurants in Bend, and what to watch for in 2027

Bend’s restaurant map changed a lot in 2026. Here’s what opened, what’s still on the way, and what we know so far about next year. Checked October 9, 2026.

Opened in 2026

Still on the way, or rooms to watch

  • Murphy Rd and Silverado Springs Dr, south BendHangar 97An aviation-themed pod with six food trucks and a taphouse. The Bulletin reported a September or October 2026 target. Its website still said “coming soon” when we checked, so this one may slide into 2027.
  • 1366 NW Galveston AvePowder Hound DoughnutsClassic donuts and coffee in the former Bo’s spot, planned for spring 2026. We couldn’t confirm hours, so it isn’t in the dessert list yet.
  • 1955 NE Division StThe old Boneyard PubThe pub’s last day is October 11, 2026. A big, built-out restaurant space in midtown won’t sit empty for long.
  • Westside, off College WayThe old Broken Top Bottle ShopClosed July 31, 2026. Another turnkey room to watch.

Looking ahead to 2027

The honest answer: as of October 9, 2026, we couldn’t find a Bend restaurant with a firm, announced 2027 opening date. Restaurants here tend to announce a few months out, not a year.

What’s most likely to land in 2027: Hangar 97 on the south end if it misses its fall 2026 target, and new tenants in the Boneyard Pub and Broken Top Bottle Shop spaces.

Dates worth knowing: the Source Weekly’s Restaurant Guide came out in April in 2026 and its Best of Central Oregon readers’ poll in August in 2025. When the 2027 versions land, we’ll update the awards on this page.

By neighborhood

Where to eat in each part of Bend

01

Downtown

The most restaurants in the fewest blocks. Thai, Indian, sushi, steak, pizza and three or four date-night rooms, all between Wall and Bond. Park once and walk. Weekend dinners need a reservation or an early start.

02

Westside, Galveston + Century Drive

Where locals actually eat. Galveston and Newport run from tacos and bagels to Ariana and BOSA. Century Drive is the newer strip, with steak, sushi, Thai and Mexican and a lot easier parking.

03

NorthWest Crossing

A real neighborhood main street. RBC for a big dinner, Washington for everything else, and The Grove market hall when nobody can agree. Quiet by 9.

04

Old Mill

Dinner with a river view, before or after a show or a float. Mostly bigger restaurants with patios. On concert nights everything is packed, so book ahead or eat somewhere else and walk over.

05

Box Factory + The Podski

The casual middle of town. A ramen shop, a deli, a taqueria and a vegan cafe in the Box Factory, and some of the best food carts in Bend across the street at The Podski.

06

Midtown, east and south

Less pretty, more useful. 3rd Street has the pho, the burgers, the drive-in and the breakfast burritos. The east side has the On Tap carts and the brewpubs with room to park.

Local notes

Before you build the night around one place

Monday and Tuesday are thin. A lot of the best small restaurants are closed one or both days. Use the Open today filter, or check the restaurant’s site before you go.

Dinner is early here. Most kitchens close by 9, some by 8. If you’re coming off the mountain or out of a show, eat first or pick from the short late-night list.

Summer and concert nights change everything. July, August and any night with a show at the amphitheater, book ahead or expect a wait. In November you can walk in almost anywhere.

Carts are real restaurants here. Some of the best tacos, burgers, Thai and vegan food in Bend come from a truck in a lot with a tap house. Bring a jacket. The fire pits help.

Gone but not forgotten

Closed Bend restaurants we miss (and where to go now)

Bend’s restaurant scene turns over fast, and 2025 and 2026 were rough years for some longtime favorites. If you’re searching for a place you remember and can’t find it, it’s probably here. These are closures we could confirm.

Closed 2020

Pilot Butte Drive-In

NE Greenwood Ave, at the foot of the butte

The burger Bend grew up on. A drive-in on Greenwood with burgers so big they barely fit the plate, and for years the automatic answer to “best burger in Bend.” It closed in spring 2020 and never reopened as the drive-in. The property sold in 2022.

Quick answers

Bend restaurant FAQs

What are the best restaurants in Bend, Oregon?

It depends on the night. For a special dinner, Ariana, BOSA Food & Drink and Rancher Butcher Chef are the names locals give first. For something casual that is still very Bend, go to Wild Rose for Northern Thai, El Sancho for tacos, Spork for a bit of everything or Pizza Mondo for a slice. Sen Thai Noodles & Hot Pot was named the Source Weekly’s 2026 Restaurant of the Year.

Where should I eat in downtown Bend?

Downtown has the most choices within a walk. Zydeco, Olive & May, Rosemary & Fox and The Hudson for a nice dinner. Wild Rose for Thai, Spiceland for Indian, Joolz for Middle Eastern, 5 Fusion or Bamboo Sushi for sushi, Ken’s Artisan Pizza or Pizza Mondo for pizza, and Deschutes Brewery or Bend Brewing Co. for a brewpub dinner.

What are the best date night restaurants in Bend?

Ariana is the big anniversary dinner. BOSA and Trattoria Sbandati are the Italian date nights. Rosemary & Fox, Olive & May and Dear Irene are the downtown picks, and Lady Bird Cultural Society is the one in the Old Mill. For a view, try Solomon’s at Tetherow at sunset or Monkless Belgian Ales above the river.

What restaurants in Bend are open on Monday and Tuesday?

A lot of Bend’s smaller restaurants close Monday, Tuesday or both. Ones that are open both nights include Zydeco, Rancher Butcher Chef, Lady Bird Cultural Society, Roam, Hawkeye & Huckleberry Lounge, Jackson’s Corner, Washington, Wild Rose, Spiceland, El Sancho and most of the brewpubs. This page has an “Open today” filter that hides the places we know are closed.

What are the best family-friendly restaurants in Bend?

Jackson’s Corner is the easiest answer, and Source readers voted it best family dining in 2025. Pine Tavern, Washington, Mountain Burger, Greg’s Grill, Anthony’s and most brewpubs (Bend Brewing Co., 10 Barrel, Crux, Sunriver Brewing) all work well with kids. For something fun, Dandy’s Drive-In brings burgers to your car on roller skates.

Where can I get cheap eats in Bend?

Bend isn’t a cheap food town, so think counter service and carts. El Sancho, Tacos Pihuamo, Super Burrito and Taco Salsa for Mexican. Pizza Mondo’s lunch special. Kefi for a gyro. Americana or Blue Eyes for a smash burger. Pho Viet & Cafe for a big bowl of pho. And any food cart lot, like The Podski or On Tap.

What are the best new restaurants in Bend in 2026?

The 2026 openings to know are Rosemary & Fox (in the former Jackalope Grill), Olive & May (in the former Drake), Casa Sur on Century Drive, Bamboo Sushi downtown, Stacks Dinner & Delicatessen and The Way West in the Old Mill, Runaround Sue Barbecue on Galveston, and Mountain View Roadhouse on the east side. The Hudson, a live-fire steakhouse, took over the old 900 Wall space, and Base Camp opened in July as a ten-truck food cart lot on Century Drive.

What new restaurants are opening in Bend in 2027?

As of October 2026, no Bend restaurant has announced a firm 2027 opening date that we could find. The most likely 2027 arrivals are Hangar 97, a food truck pod and taphouse planned for Murphy Road and Silverado Springs Drive that was aiming for fall 2026, and new tenants for the Boneyard Pub space on Division and the Broken Top Bottle Shop space on the westside. We update this page as openings are announced.

Where is the best pizza in Bend?

Pizza Mondo downtown is the longtime local favorite and won the Source readers’ poll again in 2025. Ken’s Artisan Pizza is the wood-fired sit-down option. For Detroit-style pan pizza, go to Abe Capanna’s or Rush’s Squares on the east side. Kitchen Window on Galveston does sourdough pan pizza, and Cibelli’s makes the 24-inch giant.

Where can I get Detroit-style pizza in Bend?

Abe Capanna’s, across from St. Charles on NE Cushing Drive, is the Detroit-style specialist: thick rectangular pan pizza with a crisp cheese edge and the sauce on top. Rush’s Squares, in the same part of town, also makes thick square pies. On the westside, Kitchen Window Sourdough Pizza does a sourdough pan pizza that scratches the same itch.

Where is the best Mexican food in Bend?

El Sancho won best Mexican and best tacos in the Source’s 2025 poll. Casa Sur, new in 2026, is our pick for birria tacos and a nicer dinner. La Rosa and Hola! are the sit-down margarita dinners, and Tacos Pihuamo won best burrito. Some of the best tacos in town come from carts like El Taquero and Delicias La Michoacana.

Where is the best sushi in Bend?

5 Fusion & Sushi Bar downtown is the special-night pick and the Source readers’ best sushi in 2025. Kanpai is the classic nigiri bar. Bamboo Sushi opened downtown in 2026, Kusshi does Japanese-Peruvian plates off Century Drive, and Yokocho Izakaya is the spot for small plates and ramen.

Does Bend have good vegetarian and vegan restaurants?

Yes. Active Culture, Fix & Repeat and Toasty are built around plant-based food, and Toasty and Fix & Repeat are fully vegan. Wild Rose, Spiceland, Shimshon, Kefi and Spork all have a lot for vegetarians. Mountain Burger offers plant-based patties next to the beef.

Where can I eat late at night in Bend?

Options are thin. Most Bend kitchens close by 9 or 10. Taco Salsa on Galveston stays open past midnight, The Cross-Eyed Cricket is open until 10 or later, and McMenamins and a few downtown bars serve food later than the restaurants do. If you’re eating after a show, plan it before the show.

Do I need reservations at Bend restaurants?

For the small chef-run places, yes, especially Friday and Saturday: Ariana, BOSA, Trattoria Sbandati, Kanpai, Rancher Butcher Chef and Bos Taurus. Wild Rose and Spork don’t take them, so go early. In summer and on concert nights in the Old Mill, book everything.

Where should I get dessert or ice cream in Bend?

Bonta Gelato downtown is the local favorite and won best dessert in the Source’s 2025 poll, with Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream second. Goody’s has been making ice cream and chocolate since 1984, and Cuppa Yo is the self-serve frozen yogurt that started in Bend. For donuts, it’s Richard’s Donuts & Pastries or The Dough Nut, and for a pastry, get an Ocean Roll at The Sparrow Bakery.

Is Pilot Butte Drive-In still open?

No. Pilot Butte Drive-In, the longtime burger spot on Greenwood, closed in 2020 and the property was sold in 2022. For a drive-in burger, Dandy’s Drive-In on NE 3rd Street still has carhops on roller skates. Bend Burger Company won best burger in the Source’s 2025 poll.

Is 900 Wall still open? What about the Jackalope Grill and Drake?

All three are closed. 900 Wall closed in May 2025 and The Hudson is in the space now. The Jackalope Grill’s last night was February 28, 2026, and Rosemary & Fox opened there in March. Drake on Wall Street is now Olive & May.
