Bend is a beer town that learned to make a good cocktail.

A few things to know before you pick. Downtown is the only place a real bar crawl works on foot: Wall and Bond are a block apart and a big chunk of this list sits between them. Century Drive is the locals’ workaround, where a cocktail bar, a dive and a soccer pub practically share a parking lot. And this town goes to bed early. Midnight is late here, 1 a.m. is the ceiling, and a lot of kitchens are done by 9 or 10.

Bend’s cocktail scene is small rooms, not big clubs. Most of these hold a few dozen people, so go early or go on a weeknight. Downtown, you can walk from Velvet to San Simón to Dear Irene in a few minutes and never move the car.

Team bars in Bend: where your people watch

Dancing, live music and game bars 7

Honest answer: Bend is not a dancing town most nights. When it happens it’s event driven, a DJ night here, a country night there. Check the calendar the day you go, or you may be the only one on the floor.

After midnight

Bars open late in Bend

Bend shuts down early, so it pays to know who’s still pouring. Oregon lets bars serve until 2:30 a.m., but almost nobody here uses it. These are the real closing times, straight from each bar, plus the one place in town that’s reliably open the latest.

Who’s open when

The downtown late run: JC’s fills up with a younger crowd on weekends. From there, locals hit Velvet, then D & D, then The Capitol if anyone still wants to dance. It’s all within a few blocks. Kitchens close long before the bars do, so eat first.

Midtown / 3rd Street

Best for: The latest last call in town

Yes, it’s the strip club, and yes, it’s a bar. It’s on 3rd Street, it has a full bar, a food menu and video poker, and it stays open later than anywhere else on this page. Adults only.

By neighborhood

How Bend’s bar areas actually feel

01

Downtown

The one part of Bend where a bar crawl takes no planning. Cocktails, dives, a pool hall, a whiskey bar and the late spots are all within a few blocks of Wall and Bond. If the group can’t agree, start here.

02

Westside + Century Drive

Sneaky good. A plant-filled cocktail room, a fried chicken dive, a soccer pub, a German beer hall and the newest food truck lot, all with parking. Also on the way home from Bachelor.

03

NorthWest Crossing

Planned drinks, dinner and patios, not 1 a.m. bar hopping. Good for a date or meeting friends when everyone wants to actually hear each other.

04

Old Mill + Box Factory

River views and restaurant bars in the Old Mill. A saloon and a cart lot up the hill by the Box Factory. The right call before or after a show at the amphitheater.

05

Midtown + Makers District

The part of town that’s changing fastest. Dogwood at the Pine Shed anchors it, with hotel bars on 3rd Street and Midtown Yacht Club a few blocks north.

06

East, north and south Bend

Neighborhood bar logic: TVs, parking, regulars and food. Often the better call when the goal is the game or a low-key night and nobody wants to deal with downtown.

Local notes

Before you build the night around one place

Small rooms fill fast. Velvet, San Simón and the Broom Closet are tiny. Go early, go on a weeknight, or keep a second stop in your back pocket.

“Late night” is relative here. Bend is not Vegas. If you need food after 10, check the kitchen hours, not the bar hours. They’re rarely the same.

Big game? Call ahead. Especially for soccer, fights or an out-of-market NFL team. A bar having TVs doesn’t mean it has your game, the sound on or an early open.

Get a ride. The fun spots are spread out and it’s a small town. Rideshare gets thin late at night, so line up the ride home before last call.

Gone but not forgotten

Bend bars we miss (and where to go now)

Bend loses a good one every year or two. If you’re searching for a bar you remember and can’t find it, it’s probably here. These places are closed or no longer open to the public, and we still talk about them.

Quick answers

Bend bar FAQs

What are the best bars in Bend, Oregon?

It depends on the night. For cocktails, start with Velvet, San Simón, Dear Irene or The Flamingo Room. For a dive, D & D, M & J Tavern or Cascade West. For the game, Sidelines, The Hideaway or River Pig Saloon. For whiskey, The Stihl Whiskey Bar. For a pint, The Emerald Loop or The Cellar. And for the most Bend night possible, a food truck lot bar like The Podski or The Lot.

What are the best dive bars in Bend?

D & D Bar & Grill and M & J Tavern are the two downtown classics, and Cascade West (locals call it CW) is the westside one. Corey’s sits right across Bond Street from D & D. Timbers East and Southside Pub are the neighborhood versions on the east and south sides.

What are the best sports bars in Bend?

Sidelines is the straightforward downtown pick. The Hideaway Tavern is the one to choose when food matters too, with Hideaway Empire as the easier-parking northside location. River Pig Saloon has a giant projector and stays open until 1 a.m. For soccer and rugby, go to The Commonwealth Pub.

Is there an Irish pub in Bend?

Yes. The Emerald Loop opened in October 2025 on SE Cleveland Square Loop, in the former Kelly D’s space, with Guinness on draft, Irish whiskey and pub food like shepherd’s pie and bangers and mash. For English cask ale, The Cellar by Porter Brewing is a basement pub downtown.

Where is the best whiskey bar in Bend? What about tequila?

The Stihl Whiskey Bar downtown has more than 400 whiskeys and is the clear answer for whiskey. For tequila, M & J Tavern keeps more than 200 tequilas behind the bar. Bend does not have a dedicated mezcal bar, but cocktail bars like Velvet usually have a mezcal drink on the menu.

Where can you go dancing in Bend?

COYOTE is downtown’s country bar and the clearest answer when dancing is the goal. The Capitol has DJs and a real dance floor, Dogwood at the Pine Shed runs weekend DJ nights, and The Cross-Eyed Cricket is the place for line dancing. Dancing in Bend depends on the night, so check each venue’s calendar first.

How late do bars stay open in Bend?

Earlier than you might expect. Oregon law allows alcohol service until 2:30 a.m., but very few Bend bars go that late. River Pig Saloon, M & J Tavern and Cassity’s are open until 1 a.m. every night. COYOTE, Southside Pub and The Cross-Eyed Cricket go until 1 on Friday and Saturday. Velvet and The Astro Lounge close at midnight. The latest is Stars Cabaret, which is open until 1:30 a.m. on weeknights and 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Kitchens usually close well before the bar does, so eat early.

Is downtown Bend good for bar hopping?

Yes. It is the only part of town where a bar crawl works on foot. Wall Street and Bond Street are a block apart, and cocktail bars, dives, a sports bar, a pool hall and a couple of dance spots all sit within a few blocks. Park once in the garage or take a ride and walk the rest.

Where should I drink in NorthWest Crossing?

Portello Lounge for cocktails, wine and live music, Washington Dining & Cocktails for drinks with a real dinner, and Put A Cork In It for a quiet glass of wine. NorthWest Crossing is a dinner-and-drinks neighborhood, not a late-night one.

Where is karaoke in Bend?

Monday at JC’s Bar + Grill (8 p.m., with all-day happy hour and free pool), Tuesday at M & J Tavern, and Sunday at Dogwood at the Pine Shed, where Okay Karaoke runs 7 to 10 p.m. with a different theme each week.

Where can I hear live Irish music in Bend?

The Cellar, Porter Brewing’s basement pub downtown, hosts an Irish trad session every Thursday at 6 p.m. with local musicians playing traditional Irish and Celtic tunes. For a pint of Guinness after, The Emerald Loop is Bend’s Irish pub.

What is there to do at Bend bars on a weeknight?

More than you’d think. Monday has karaoke at JC’s and Monday Night Football at River’s Place. Tuesday has karaoke at M & J and open mic at The Cellar. Wednesday is trivia night at JC’s, Prost! and Midtown Yacht Club, plus Music Bingo at Portello Lounge and line dancing at River Pig Saloon. Thursday has live music at The Lot, River’s Place and The Cellar.

Is Rapa Nui Tiki Lounge in Bend still open?

No. Rapa Nui Tiki Lounge in the Old Mill District has closed. It was Bend’s only tiki bar. For a similar creative-cocktail night, try The Flamingo Room on Century Drive or San Simón downtown.

Is Duda’s Billiards Bar in Bend closing?

Yes. Duda’s Billiards Bar, the family-owned pool hall at 1020 NW Wall St in downtown Bend, is closing after Oct. 31, 2026, after about 10 years. For pool and bar games after that, try JC’s Bar + Grill on Franklin or Cascade West Grub & Alehouse.

Is 900 Wall in Bend still open?

No. 900 Wall closed in May 2025 after many years as one of downtown Bend’s best-known restaurants and bars. The Hudson, a live-fire steakhouse, now occupies the space at 900 NW Wall St. For a downtown restaurant bar, try Zydeco, The Blacksmith or Bar RBC.

Is Bar Rio in Bend still open?

Not to the public. Bar Rio stopped operating as a bar and restaurant in October 2025 and the space is now The Rio Room, a private event venue. For cocktails and small plates downtown, try Bar RBC, Dear Irene or San Simón.

Can I bring kids or dogs to bars in Bend?

To the food truck lots, usually yes. Places like On Tap, River’s Place and The Lot are built for families and dogs. Regular bars vary: Velvet and Dear Irene are 21 and over, and The Emerald Loop is family friendly until 9 p.m. When in doubt, call.
