Buy fresh fish to cook at home

Bend has no dockside fishmonger, but it has two good fish counters. Sebastian’s (above) has the biggest case in town. Here’s the other.

Grocery seafood counter, west side

Newport Avenue Market

A full fish counter with fishmongers who will tell you how to cook it.

Bend’s employee-owned grocery runs a staffed seafood counter. In season its site promises line-caught fish that has never been frozen (it names salmon, tuna, opah, halibut and swordfish), plus Dungeness crab and Pacific Northwest oysters year-round. It will special-order what isn’t in the case, and there’s a sushi counter in the store too.

Where
1121 NW Newport Ave
Hours
Store open daily 7 a.m.–10 p.m.

Checked October 22, 2026: Seafood department · Hours

Tip: Call ahead for anything specific (halibut, king crab, a dozen oysters for a party). Sebastian’s asks you to call for the day’s selection, and Newport will special-order.

Pick by seafood craving

Oysters

Raw and shucked to order at Mother Shuckers, six for $20 at Hook & Plow, or a full raw bar at The Hudson.

Poke

Start with Sebastian’s, Poke Row or Aina. This is the easiest seafood category for lunch and takeout.

Chowder and comfort food

Sebastian’s house clam chowder ($6 cup), Mother Shuckers’ smoked steelhead chowder ($12 bowl) or Hook & Plow’s seafood chowder ($7 at happy hour).

Fish tacos

Mother Shuckers’ blackened steelhead tacos, Sebastian’s grilled mahi mahi tacos, or a $6 fish taco at Hook & Plow’s happy hour.

Sushi

Go deeper with our separate Bend sushi guide. Sushi deserves its own list instead of getting buried inside a general seafood page. For sushi-grade fish to take home, Sebastian’s sells tuna, salmon and yellowtail.

A nicer dinner

The Hudson for oysters, caviar and scallops downtown; Anthony’s when you want the river view to matter as much as the fish.

Food-cart seafood

Bend’s food-cart lots are useful when your group wants different things. One person can get oysters at Mother Shuckers (The Podski) or poke at Aina (On Tap) while everyone else picks their own cart.
