Quick picks

What do you need the system to do? Tap one.

Monitored alarm

Want a local company to install it and watch it 24/7? East Cascade runs a monitoring center in Bend and offers video verification. Safe & Sound (Alarm.com), Watchdog, Syscor and SOS Alarm are the other local alarm companies.

Police will come

Bend Police only respond to verified or priority alarms. Get video verification (East Cascade), a camera at every entry, or a patrol company that responds to your alarm (Security Pros, APR).

Cameras

Yates Industries designs camera systems with video analytics. Innovate builds cameras meant to resist network hacking. SOS and Safe & Sound add cameras to alarm systems.

Second home or cabin

Monitor temperature and water, not just doors. SOS Alarm monitors water leaks and temperature; Syscor alerts on freeze and fire; Innovate sells water sensors.

Smart home

For locks, lights, shades and cameras in one app: SecuraCore, Sera (Stereo Planet) and Technology Design Associates (Control4). Innovate and SOS build smart control into the alarm panel.

DIY or renter

SimpliSafe and Ring kits go up in an afternoon, need no drilling and move with you. Pay for monitoring (SimpliSafe from $1.10/day, Ring Pro $19.99/month) or nobody calls for help.

Lowest posted price

SOS Alarm says home systems start at $8 a week. SimpliSafe’s Core plan is $1.10 a day, and Ring Pro is $199.99 a year. Most local companies quote free.

Aging in place

Innovate sells panic buttons and fall pendants; Safe & Sound offers independent living and wellness monitoring.

How Bend police respond to alarms

Bend Police respond only to priority or verified alarms.

A typical home burglar alarm that nobody has confirmed does not get a police response in the City of Bend. That one policy should shape what you buy.

What counts as verified

  • Live video shows someone breaking in.
  • Audio picks up someone entering without permission.
  • A person at the house, or a neighbor, sees something suspicious and calls it in.
  • The alarm goes off along with other signs (motion, glass break) and nobody at the house can be reached.

Priority alarms police answer right away

Holdup, panic, domestic violence and duress alarms, plus schools, government buildings, pharmacies and gun shops.

What it means for you

Put a camera where the alarm sensors are, and pick a monitoring plan that uses video verification. Keep your contact list current so the monitoring center can reach someone. Have a key holder nearby: police wait up to 20 minutes for someone to let them in, then leave, and securing the house afterward is on you. False alarms can be billed under city rules.

Bend risks an alarm should cover

Break-ins aren’t the only thing worth monitoring in the high desert.

🥶 Freezes in empty houses

A furnace failure in January can burst pipes before anyone notices. Temperature and water-leak sensors (SOS, Syscor, Innovate) text you or the monitoring center first. See our frozen pipe guide for what to do if it happens.

🔥 Fire and smoke

Monitored smoke and heat detectors call for help when nobody’s home. Watchdog designs fire alarm systems; Innovate and Safe & Sound add smoke and CO detectors to a security panel.

📦 Porches and garages

A video doorbell and a garage-door sensor cover the two most-used doors in a lot of Bend homes. Pair them with a solid lock: see Bend locksmiths and garage door repair.

🏡 Second homes and rentals

For a Sunriver or Bend vacation home, list a local key holder with the monitoring company, add cameras at entries so alarms can be verified, and check your HOA or rental rules before mounting cameras.

🔌 Power and internet outages

Winter storms knock out power. Ask whether the panel has battery backup and a cellular connection, not just Wi-Fi. SimpliSafe lists up to 24 hours of battery backup.

🌲 Big lots

Rural lots off Hwy 20 or out toward Tumalo need cameras with good range and night vision, and a company that serves your area. East Cascade lists Tumalo, Terrebonne, Sisters and La Pine.

Questions to ask before you sign

  • How do you verify alarms? Video, audio, or calling me first? Remember Bend Police need verification.
  • Who monitors, and where? East Cascade monitors from Bend; others use a central station elsewhere.
  • What’s your CCB number? Look it up on the Oregon CCB search.
  • How long is the contract, does it auto-renew, and what does it cost to cancel?
  • Do I own the equipment or lease it? Can another company take it over later?
  • Cellular or Wi-Fi? And how long does the battery last in an outage?
  • Can you take over my existing panel (common when you buy a Bend house that already has one)?

Licensing in Oregon

Alarm companies need a CCB license. Oregon’s Building Codes Division lists burglar alarms, fire alarms and security systems as limited-energy electrical work requiring a Limited Energy Technician Class A or general electrician license (BCD minor label scope).

New to town? Our new homeowner guide covers the rest of the move-in list. Wiring jobs: Bend electricians.

Bend home security FAQ

Will Bend police come if my alarm goes off?

Only for priority or verified alarms. Bend Police respond right away to holdup, panic, duress and some high-risk locations. For a regular home burglar alarm, someone has to verify it first: live video or audio of a break-in, a person or neighbor who sees something, or an alarm plus other signs (motion, glass break) when no one can be reached. Otherwise police won’t respond. If they do come and no one lets them in, they wait up to 20 minutes, and false alarms can be billed.

What is video verification and do I need it in Bend?

It lets the monitoring center see camera video during an alarm and tell 911 a crime is actually happening. Because Bend Police only respond to verified alarms, it’s worth asking every company about it. East Cascade Security advertises video verification, SimpliSafe lets you turn it on in the app, and Ring’s $99 Virtual Security Guard has agents watch outdoor cameras.

How much does home security cost in Bend?

From posted prices: SOS Alarm says home systems start at $8 a week, SimpliSafe monitoring runs $1.10 to $2.66 a day, and Ring’s professionally monitored plan is $19.99 a month. Most local companies (East Cascade, Safe & Sound, Watchdog, Syscor, Innovate) quote after a free consultation, since equipment and install depend on the house.

What license should a Bend alarm installer have?

An Oregon Construction Contractors Board (CCB) license for the company, which you can look up on the CCB site. Oregon’s Building Codes Division lists burglar alarms, fire alarms and security systems as limited-energy electrical work that needs a Limited Energy Technician Class A or a general electrician license. Watchdog (CCB 151785) and Syscor (CCB 211756) post their CCB numbers.

What’s the best setup for a Sunriver or Bend vacation home?

Professional monitoring plus temperature (freeze) and water-leak sensors, since a frozen pipe in an empty cabin can do more damage than a burglar. SOS Alarm and Syscor both mention temperature monitoring; Innovate and SOS sell water-leak sensors. Add a camera at the door so alarms can be verified, and give the monitoring company a local contact who can meet police or a contractor.

Is a DIY system like SimpliSafe or Ring enough?

For many Bend homes, yes, if you pay for professional monitoring. Without it, the alarm only notifies your phone. DIY is cheapest up front and has no contract. A local installer is better for hardwired homes, fire alarm tie-ins, big properties, or if you want someone local to service it.

What happened to Google Nest Secure?

Google ended support for Nest Secure on April 8, 2024, so the alarm no longer works. Nest cameras and doorbells were not affected. If you bought a house with a Nest Secure keypad, plan to replace it.

Does an alarm lower my homeowners insurance?

Often. Syscor and other installers mention insurance savings for monitored systems. Ask your insurer which features count (central-station monitoring, monitored smoke detectors, water sensors) and ask the alarm company for a monitoring certificate.

How we checked this guide

We found Bend-area security companies through map listings, then checked each one on its own website on October 23, 2026 for services, monitoring, posted prices, licenses, service areas and contact details. Bend’s alarm response policy comes from the City of Bend Police. SimpliSafe and Ring prices come from their own plan pages. Where a site doesn’t say something (like who runs the central station), we say so.
