Three ways to get rid of junk in Bend

1

Full-service haul

From $100–$150 minimum

A crew walks in, carries it out, loads, sweeps and handles disposal. Best for heavy furniture, upstairs loads, estates and anyone short on time or a truck.

2

Dumpster or dump trailer

Priced by size and days

You load on your schedule, they haul it away. Best for remodels, roof tear-offs and big garage cleanouts. See our dumpster guide.

3

Haul it yourself

$30 per 500 lbs at Knott

Cheapest if you have a truck or trailer and a strong friend. Cover your load and you get $10 back at the scale.

    How haulers price it

What a “load” actually looks like

Most Bend junk companies price by how much of their truck or trailer your stuff fills, then add for heavy or special items. Use this to describe your job when you text for a quote.

    Single item / minimum

One couch, a recliner, a hot water heater, a washer. This is where the $100–$150 posted minimums apply.

    Quarter load

A pickup bed heaped up: a mattress set, a dresser, a few bags and boxes, an old grill.

    Half load

A one-car garage corner, a basement storage room, or a bedroom’s worth of furniture.

    Full load

A packed two-car garage, a whole-house estate cleanout room by room, or a torn-down shed.

Things that can add to the price

    • Heavy materials: concrete, dirt, rock, roofing and tile fill a truck by weight long before it is full by volume.
    • Items with disposal fees: fridges and freezers ($20 each at the county), tires ($4–$6) and anything needing special handling.
    • Labor and access: third-floor walk-ups, long carries, tight Westside driveways and snowy winter access.
    • Demolition: taking apart a shed, deck, hot tub or playset before hauling it.

The six Bend cleanouts we get asked about most

    📦 Moving out or downsizing

Bend’s summer moving season fills haulers’ calendars from June to August. Book a week ahead, sort into keep / donate / sell / toss first, and post furniture on local buy-and-sell groups two weeks before the truck comes.

Who: Live Junkless and On the Move pair junk removal with moving.

    🏡 Estate cleanout

Go room by room, pull paperwork, photos and anything valuable first, and get an estate-sale or appraisal opinion on furniture and tools before anything goes to the dump. Donate what works to the Habitat ReStore.

Who: full-service crews that sort for donation.

    🛁 Hot tub removal

Very common in Bend. Have an electrician disconnect the power first, drain it a day ahead, and confirm the crew can cut it up on site or has the people to carry it out. Replacing it? See our hot tub guide.

Who: ask for demolition plus haul in one quote.

    🔨 Remodel debris

Drywall, cabinets, flooring and roofing are heavy and come out over days. A dumpster or dump trailer is usually cheaper than repeat hauler trips. Asbestos-era materials need testing before demolition.

Who: dumpster or dump-trailer rental (Weekend Warriors, On the Move).

    🏘 Rental turnover

Landlords and property managers: photograph what tenants left, follow Oregon’s rules on abandoned property before you toss anything, then book one haul for everything at once.

    Who: crews with same-day availability.

    🌲 Yard and wildfire cleanup

Pine needles, juniper and brush near the house are fuel. Haul them free during FireFree each spring, or at $7 a cubic yard the rest of the year. Keep the 5 feet around your house clear.

Who: you and a trailer, or 541 Junk Removal’s dump trailer.

Keep it out of the landfill

Recycle, donate or sell before you haul

    Deschutes Recycling

At Knott Landfill, 61050 SE 27th St, open 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every day (541-388-1910). The county’s recycling guide lists clean scrap metal among accepted items, plus yard debris, wood, appliances and mattresses.

    Habitat ReStore

Bend-Redmond Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore at 224 NE Thurston Ave takes working furniture, appliances and building materials. Donation hours are listed as Monday–Saturday, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. (541-312-6709). Ask whether they can pick up large items.

    Sell or give it away

Bend has active local buy-and-sell and free groups. Decent furniture, tools, outdoor gear and bikes often go in a day, and someone else does the lifting.

    Your trash hauler

If your curbside service is with Republic Services, it offers junk and bulky-item cleanup as an extra-cost service. Ask your hauler before booking someone else for one or two items.

    Timing

    A Bend cleanout calendar

    Spring

FireFree free yard debris (Knott’s 2026 window was May 15–24). Garage and shed cleanouts. Busiest time to book.

    Summer

Moving season and estate sales. Book haulers a week out; dump early in the day before it gets hot.

    Fall

Needles and leaves, last chance to clear out before snow blocks side yards and driveways.

    Winter

Quieter calendars and faster appointments. Make sure the driveway and path are shoveled for the crew.

    Bend junk removal tips

    Text photos to two haulers.

Most Bend companies quote from photos. Include something for scale and say what floor it is on.

Pull out the free stuff first.

Mattresses, electronics and paint are free to drop off and often cost extra on a hauler’s truck.

    Donate what works.

Habitat ReStore takes usable furniture, appliances and building materials, and some haulers will drop off donations for you.

    Mind the season.

Spring cleanup and summer moves are busiest. Late fall and winter often get faster appointments, snow permitting.

    Fill the truck smart.

Hauler prices scale with volume. Break down boxes and furniture you can to fit more into a smaller fraction of the load.

    Cover it.

An uncovered load costs you the $10 rebate, and loose junk flies out on the highway. A tarp and straps pay for themselves.

How do I get rid of an old mattress in Bend?
For free. Oregon’s mattress recycling program (Bye Bye Mattress) has been funded by a $22.50 fee on new mattresses since January 1, 2025.
