2026 update: what happened to Too Sweet Cakes in Bend?
Older versions of this guide listed Too Sweet Cakes’ Bend shop on SE Cleveland Ave. On October 22, 2026, the company’s own website listed its shops in Lake Oswego, Phoenix and Gilbert, Arizona, and no Bend location. It still takes custom cake orders and sells through grocery partners in Oregon, Washington and Arizona, so if you want Too Sweet specifically, use the Too Sweet Cakes website to see where an order can be picked up. Don’t drive to the old Bend storefront.
How much does a custom cake cost in Bend?
There’s no single “Bend cake price,” but the bakeries’ own posted starting prices show the range:
Price moves with servings, tiers, fillings, hand piping or sculpting, fondant and sugar flowers, dietary swaps, delivery distance, setup and rush timing. Ask for the total delivered price, not just the base cake.
How early should you order?
48–72 hours
The posted minimums at Ida’s (48 hours for custom cakes) and Market of Choice (72 hours). A minimum isn’t a guarantee: Saturdays and graduation weekends fill first. Same day? Try Ida’s cupcake case, Nothing Bundt Cakes, a supermarket bakery or a single slice.
1–3 weeks
Right for most birthdays, showers and graduations. Chalk to Flour asks for a week on every order, Treeline two weeks, Ida’s and Market of Choice want two weeks for tiered or wedding cakes, and Elly’s ice cream cakes are ordered Monday for Friday or later.
Several months
Designer wedding cakes and dessert tables. Crumb Cakery books about 9 months ahead for May–October and is full through Oct. 27, 2026. Contact your baker as soon as you have a venue and date.
Gluten-free, vegan and allergy requests
Gluten-free, vegan and allergy-safe are three different things. Here is what each bakery says on its own site:
Ida’s: house-made gluten-free flour; GF and vegan items baked first each morning and flash-frozen. It still handles wheat, dairy, nuts, soy and coconut and can’t guarantee allergy safety.
Chalk to Flour: gluten-friendly, dairy-friendly or vegan cakes for $10–$25 extra.
For a serious allergy, name the exact allergen, ask about shared equipment and work surfaces, and ask whether the bakery itself thinks the cake is safe for that guest. Decide on the answer, not on a “GF” label.
Birthday cake vs. wedding cake: what changes?
Birthday / celebration
Wedding / large event
Usually pickup
Often delivery and setup (Crumb from $125, Ida’s from $25)
One cake
Tiers plus cupcakes, cookies or a dessert bar
Short design chat
Consultation and tasting ($30 Ida’s, $40 Dreamin’, $150 Crumb box)
Pay at order or pickup
Deposit or retainer, contract and a final-payment deadline (1–6 weeks before)
A smart wedding-cake strategy: display cake + supplemental dessert
You don’t need a four-tier cake to feed 150. A small cutting cake or modest tiered display cake, backed by sheet cake in the same flavor (Crumb sells quarter and half sheets as add-ons), cupcakes, macarons or a dessert bar, often costs less and serves faster. Crumb, Ida’s, Treeline and Dreamin’ Desserts all do this kind of mixed dessert table. Tell the baker your guest count and service style and ask what they’d recommend.
Outdoor weddings in Bend, Sunriver and Central Oregon
Tell the baker whether the cake will be indoors or outside, in shade or sun, and how long it sits before cutting. Ida’s asks for exactly this when you book. Also mention stairs, long carries, gravel roads to the venue and the venue’s elevation. Buttercream in August sun is a very different job from a cake in an air-conditioned ballroom. See our Bend wedding venues guide and wedding planning guide.
Cake-ordering checklist
Put all of this in your first message and you’ll get a real quote back instead of more questions. Tick items off as you go; nothing is saved or sent.
Send real photos, not AI images. In October 2026 Ida’s asked customers to stop sending AI-generated inspiration pictures, because real buttercream on a real cake can’t match them. Pictures of actual cakes from any bakery are welcome, and decorators can suggest ideas if you have none.
