Christmas pickup, the Bend way

Pickup day is not Christmas

Most Bend dinners are picked up Dec. 23 or 24, and Market of Choice was closed on Christmas Day last year. Plan your fridge space, then reheat on the day.

Bring a cooler bag

A Bend December can mean snow and ice on pickup day. A cooler bag keeps cold food cold if the lines are long or the roads are slow.

Reheat to a real temperature

Follow the provider’s instructions. As a rule of thumb, USDA guidance is 165°F for reheated cooked leftovers and 140°F for a fully cooked ham in its original packaging. A thermometer beats guessing.

Count the oven, not just the people

Turkey, ham, stuffing and rolls all want the oven at once. Ask which dishes can reheat on the stove or in a slow cooker.

Order before family lands

Guests flying into Redmond for the holidays tend to firm up headcounts late. Order for your best guess by early December rather than waiting.

Make a night of it

Pick up dinner, then walk downtown under the lights. Our Christmas in Bend guide has the lights, Santa visits and the parade.
