Drop-off is all you need. Ask for labels on anything vegan or gluten-free and confirm who brings plates. Don’t over-order. Somebody always works through lunch.

The big evening party

40 to 150 people, partners invited

This is a staffed job. You want servers to keep the buffet full and clear plates, and someone licensed behind the bar. Book this one first, because Friday and Saturday dates in December go early.

Dinner out, somebody else cleans up

12 to 60 people

A restaurant buyout or private room skips rentals, staffing and cleanup in one move. Ask about a food and drink minimum in place of a room fee.

A party at your house

8 to 30 people

Decide whether you want food dropped off hot or a chef in your kitchen. Tell them how many ovens and how much fridge space you have. It changes the menu.

Something they will remember

Any size

A pizza truck or a taco cart turns dinner into the entertainment. In December you need a plowed place to park it and a warm place for people to eat.

    Work backward

    Your booking timeline

    1. 7 weeks out Pick the date and lock the caterer

Fridays and Saturdays in December go first. A Tuesday or Wednesday lunch is much easier to book.

    2. 4 weeks out Choose the menu and collect dietary needs

Ask every guest privately. Give the caterer counts, and say which are allergies and which are preferences.

    3. 2 weeks out Sort out drinks, rentals and the room

Who is pouring? Do you need tables, linens or heaters? Where does the caterer unload if there is snow on the ground?

    4. 1 week out Give the final headcount

Many caterers lock your number about a week ahead and bill on it. Ask yours for the exact cutoff, and round down a little. Somebody always cancels.

    5. 3 days out Last call for drop-off orders

Several Bend caterers need 72 hours for pickup and drop-off orders. Confirm the delivery window and who will be there to meet it.

    6. Party day One person owns the door

Give the caterer one name and one cell number. Check the forecast, salt the walkway and line up rides home before the first drink is poured.

Pick your date and the steps turn into real deadlines.

Things a Bend host learns the hard way

    Six local notes

    Plan for snow

A December storm slows every delivery in Bend. Build slack into the timeline, shovel the route from the driveway to the kitchen, and keep hot food in the caterer’s boxes until you are ready to serve.

You probably don’t need a liquor license

Oregon does not require one for a private party where the drinks are free and nobody pays to attend. If you hire someone to serve, that vendor needs to be licensed and the bartender needs an OLCC service permit. A cash bar changes everything, so let a licensed caterer run it.

    One drink hits like two

Bend sits at 3,600 feet. Visitors from sea level feel it. Put out real food before the bar opens, stock good non-alcoholic options, and pay for the rides home. It is the cheapest insurance you will buy all year.

    Ask what “per person” includes

One Bend caterer includes plates and utensils in every package, and charges $2.25 a person for them on à la carte orders. Another doesn’t supply them at all. Posted service charges here run from 15 to 25 percent. Get the all-in number.

    Appetizers are not dinner

If the invitation covers 6 to 8 pm, people arrive hungry. Either feed them a meal or say “appetizers and drinks” on the invite. For heavy appetizers in place of dinner, plan on 10 to 12 pieces a person.

    Feed the vegans properly

A guest with a restriction should get a full plate, not the one side dish that happens to be safe. Craft, El Sancho and the Cross-Eyed Cricket all list vegan or gluten-free options up front.

    Quick answers

    Holiday catering FAQ

Who caters holiday parties in Bend, Oregon?

Cody’s Country Catering posts set holiday menus with turkey, ham and tri-tip. Bleu Bite Catering and Bowtie Catering Co. are full-service caterers with staff and bar service. For casual parties, Craft Kitchen & Brewery, Baldy’s Barbeque, El Sancho and The Cross-Eyed Cricket all post catering packages. La Rosa hosts holiday parties in NorthWest Crossing, and Swig & Stone brings a wood-fired pizza truck.

How much does holiday party catering cost in Bend?

Based on prices Bend caterers publish, casual drop-off food such as barbecue, tacos or boxed lunches runs $16 to $32 a person. A classic catered dinner with chicken, tri-tip or salmon runs about $25 to $37 a person for food. Prime rib and beef tenderloin menus run $45 to $80. Add 15 to 25 percent for service charges, plus delivery, staff and bar if you need them.

How far ahead should I book a holiday caterer in Bend?

Six to eight weeks ahead for a Friday or Saturday evening in December, which means booking by late October or early November. Weekday lunches are easier and can often be booked two to three weeks out. For drop-off orders, several Bend caterers need 72 hours, and The Cross-Eyed Cricket takes orders with 24 hours’ notice.

Can I get holiday catering for a small office?

Yes. Craft Kitchen & Brewery has a 10-person minimum on its packages. El Sancho’s pickup taco bar starts at a $100 order for 10 to 50 people. Baldy’s Barbeque sells packages by the person for pickup. Bleu Bite serves small groups too, but adds 15 percent for groups under 25 and has a $350 minimum.

Do I need a liquor license for a company holiday party in Oregon?

Not if it is a private party where alcohol is free and no one pays to attend. Oregon requires a license when alcohol is sold or when admission is charged. If you hire a caterer or bartender to serve, that vendor must be licensed and servers need an OLCC service permit. For a cash bar, use a licensed caterer or venue.

Do caterers provide plates, utensils and serving equipment?

It depends, so ask. Baldy’s Barbeque includes plates, utensils and serving utensils in its packages. Swig & Stone includes compostable plates and utensils. Craft includes tables and chafers. The Cross-Eyed Cricket does not include plates, napkins or cutlery. El Sancho includes them on delivered orders but not on pickup.

What is the cheapest way to cater an office holiday party?

Pick up the food yourself and choose a casual menu. Per-person packages from Baldy’s start at $17.50, Craft’s boxed lunch is $17 and its taco bar is $16. A weekday lunch also skips evening staffing and bar costs.

Is Christmas dinner to go the same as holiday catering?

No. Heat-at-home holiday meals are sized for a household and have fixed pickup days. Party catering is sized for a group, and can include delivery, setup, staff and bar. For a family meal, see our Christmas dinner to-go guide.

Can I hire a food truck for a holiday party in Bend?

Yes. Swig & Stone caters from a wood-fired pizza truck and El Sancho brings a taco cart for groups of 100 or more. In December, plan a plowed place to park and somewhere warm for guests to eat.

How many appetizers do I need per person?

If appetizers are standing in for dinner, plan on 10 to 12 pieces a person. If dinner follows, 4 to 6 pieces is enough. For tacos, El Sancho figures one pound of filling makes 8 to 10.

Menus, prices and minimums were checked on each caterer’s own website on October 10, 2026. They change every season, so confirm before you book. Spot something wrong? Tell us.
