App development in Bend, Oregon

Bend has a small, capable software scene: studios building native iPhone and Android apps, web apps and the integrations behind them. Start with the quiz, because most businesses do not need an app. Some really do.

Quick check

Do you actually need an app?

Do customers use your business at least weekly (ordering, booking, checking in)?
Do you need push notifications, offline use, GPS or the camera?
Is the software itself the product you sell?
Do your staff work in the field and need tools on their phones?
Have off-the-shelf tools stopped fitting how you work?
Answer the questions aboveWe'll suggest the simplest thing that works.

Know what you are buying

Four kinds of “app”

A

A great mobile website

Fast, tap-to-call, booking built in. What 90% of Bend's restaurants, shops and service businesses need.

B

Off-the-shelf, your brand

Ordering, booking or loyalty apps from your POS or booking platform, with your logo. Monthly fee, no build.

C

A custom web app

Runs in the browser: customer portals, internal tools, quoting and scheduling systems. Cheaper than native, no app store.

D

A native iOS / Android app

In the App Store and Google Play, with push notifications and phone hardware. The most expensive to build and maintain.

Money and time

What apps cost to build and keep running

$15k–$75kSavy's typical range for strategic projects
$99 / yrApple Developer Program, required to publish on the App Store

Plan for year two. Apple and Google ship big OS updates every fall, and apps need updates to keep working. Budget a maintenance plan, roughly the same every year, before you budget new features.

Put it in writing

Six things your app contract needs

  1. IP assignment. The code, designs and data belong to your company once paid.
  2. Repository access from day one. You can see the code as it is written, in a GitHub or GitLab account you control.
  3. Store accounts in your name. Apple and Google developer accounts registered to your business.
  4. A fixed first scope. A small MVP with a clear feature list beats an open-ended build.
  5. Maintenance terms. What OS updates, bug fixes and hosting cost after launch.
  6. A handoff plan. Documentation good enough that another developer could take over.

FAQ

Questions Bend owners ask

How much does it cost to build an app in Bend?
It depends on scope far more than location. Coulee Creative says most of its projects (websites and apps) fall between $5,000 and $30,000 over 4 to 12 weeks, and Savy's strategic projects run $15,000 to $75,000. A small fixed-scope MVP is the cheapest way to find out. Add yearly costs: Apple's developer program is $99 a year and Google Play charges a one-time $25 fee, plus hosting and updates.
Do I need an app or just a better website?
Most local businesses need a fast mobile website, not an app. An app makes sense when customers use you weekly or more (ordering, loyalty, bookings, tracking), when you need phone features like push notifications, offline use or the camera, or when the app is the product you sell.
Who builds iPhone and Android apps in Bend?
MVP OPS builds native iOS and Android apps, Uptech Studio builds native and Flutter apps from its Bond Street office, and Coulee Creative builds iOS, Android and cross-platform apps. Litehouse and BlueChannel focus on web applications.
Should I use an off-the-shelf app instead?
Check first. Restaurants (Toast, Square), salons and studios (booking apps), and tour companies (booking platforms) already have branded-app options for a monthly fee. Custom makes sense when those tools force you to work around them every day.
Who owns the code if I hire a developer?
Only you, if the contract says so. Ask for an intellectual property assignment, access to the code repository from day one, and the App Store and Google Play developer accounts registered in your company's name.
How we checked

Every studio was checked on its own website in October 2026. Not listed: Five Talent Software (acquired by Effectual in 2020), Deschutes Design Group (based in Bozeman, Montana) and SingleMind (we could not confirm a current Bend office). Apple and Google developer fees are their published rates.

Updated October 21, 2026. Nobody paid to be listed here. Prices change, so confirm with the business before you sign anything. Suggest a fix or a business we missed.
