How Bend searches work

Three places you can show up

01

The map pack

The three Google Business Profiles with a map. For “near me” and service searches it is the whole game. Ranked on relevance, distance and prominence.

02

The regular results

Your website's pages. This is where service pages, town pages and helpful guides earn traffic for months and years.

03

AI answers

Google AI Overviews and chat tools summarize the web. They lean on sites, reviews and local articles that say clearly what you do and where.

What is different about ranking in Bend

  • Distance swings results across town. A search from the Old Mill District, NW Crossing or out by Pilot Butte can show different map results for the same words. Do not panic when your own phone shows something else.
  • Visitors search from where they are standing. Restaurants, rentals and tour companies get searched from hotels, trailheads and the Box Factory, often by people who have never heard of you. Photos, hours and the menu on your profile do the selling.
  • The seasons move demand. Searches for snow removal, ski tuning and furnaces climb in fall; river floats, patios and AC in late spring. Update your profile posts and service pages a month before your season, not during it.
  • Most service businesses cover more than Bend. Redmond, Sisters, Sunriver, La Pine, Tumalo and Prineville are separate searches. A real page for each town you serve helps, as long as it is not a copy with the name swapped.

Do these first

The Bend local SEO checklist

  1. Claim and finish your Google Business Profile. Pick the most specific primary category, add every service, real photos of your crew and space, and accurate hours, including holiday hours.
  2. Match your name, address and phone everywhere. Same spelling on your site, Google, Apple Maps, Yelp, Facebook and the Bend Chamber directory.
  3. Ask every happy customer for a review. Send the direct review link by text the same day. Reply to every review, including the bad ones, briefly and kindly.
  4. One page per service, one page per town. “Drain cleaning in Bend” and “Water heaters in Redmond” beat a single “Services” page.
  5. Earn local mentions. Sponsor a youth team, donate to a local auction, join the Bend Chamber, get listed on Visit Bend if you serve visitors, and get into local guides like ours (we offer a free “Featured on All Things Bend” badge to listed businesses).
  6. Add schema markup. LocalBusiness, opening hours and FAQ markup help both Google and AI tools read your site. Any designer in our website design guide can add it.
  7. Set up Search Console and Analytics in your own name. If an agency leaves, the data stays with you.

Walk away if you hear

SEO red flags

“We guarantee #1 on Google.”

Nobody controls Google. Ask for examples of real Bend clients instead.

“We'll set up your Google profile under our account.”

You should own your Google Business Profile, Search Console and Analytics. Add the agency as a manager.

“We can get you 100 five-star reviews.”

Bought or fake reviews break Google rules and the FTC's 2024 reviews rule.

“500 backlinks for $99.”

Cheap link packages are usually spam networks that can sink a site.

A 12-month contract with no exit.

Six months to start is reasonable. A year with no out is a sales tactic.

Reports with no calls or leads.

Rankings and traffic are nice. Ask how many calls and form fills the work produced.

FAQ

Questions Bend owners ask

How much does SEO cost in Bend, Oregon?
Posted Bend prices in October 2026: Just By Design at $1,250 or $1,950 a month, MDRN SEO at $2,500 or $4,000 a month with a $1,500 one-time diagnostic, and many web designers include basic local SEO setup with a new site. Expect at least six months before judging results.
How do I get into the Google map pack in Bend?
Google weighs three things for the map: how relevant your Business Profile is to the search, how close you are to the searcher, and how prominent you are (reviews, links, mentions). You cannot move your shop, so work on the other two: exact categories, complete services, steady new reviews and real local mentions.
How many Google reviews do I need?
It depends on your category. MDRN SEO looked at the map pack in 100 US cities in March 2026 and found top-3 businesses averaged about 33 reviews in paving, 117 in siding, 126 in family law and 1,209 in HVAC. Check the three businesses that show up for your main search in Bend and aim past them.
Can I list a home address in Bend on Google?
If customers do not come to you (plumbers, cleaners, landscapers), set up a service-area business and hide the address. Listing a fake office or a virtual mailbox breaks Google rules and can get the profile suspended.
Should I make separate pages for Redmond, Sisters and Sunriver?
Yes, if you actually work there. Give each town its own page with real jobs, photos or details from that place. Copy-and-paste pages with the town name swapped out rarely rank and can hurt the rest of the site.
Is it OK to offer a discount for Google reviews?
No. Google prohibits incentivized reviews, and the FTC rule on fake reviews and testimonials (in effect since October 2024) bans buying or faking them. Asking every happy customer, with a direct link, is allowed and works.
Does SEO still matter with ChatGPT and AI answers?
More than ever. AI tools pull from the same sources: your site, your Google Business Profile, reviews and local articles. Clear service pages, schema markup and mentions on trusted local sites help in both places. Just By Design and MDRN SEO both sell AI search work specifically. See our AI search guide for a prompt tester and checklist.
How we checked

We read each company's own website in October 2026. From our older SEO list we removed Thrive, SocialSEO and SEOteric (not based in Bend) and Five Talent (bought by Effectual in 2020). Map pack review counts are MDRN SEO's published March 2026 study of 100 US cities, not a Bend-only sample.

Updated October 21, 2026. Nobody paid to be listed here. Prices change, so confirm with the business before you sign anything. Suggest a fix or a business we missed.
