Quick take

Most of Bend’s “cold therapy” is cold water, not cryo chambers.

Several cryo listings from earlier versions of this guide have closed or gone quiet. RISE Modern Wellness is the one Bend studio we could confirm offering whole-body and localized cryotherapy. For cold plunges, Bend has more choice than ever.

  • Whole-body cryo: RISE Modern Wellness on SW Century Dr, with a new-client 90-minute package (cryo, compression, infrared sauna, red light) for $79.
  • Cold plunge with sauna: ChillWell on Wall St ($59 plunge and infrared sauna room; $99/month for four visits).
  • Hot-cold pools: Flux Thermal Lounge (45°, 55° and 60°F plunges; $20 first visit, $45 drop-in).
  • The river: Gather Sauna House pairs wood-fired saunas with Deschutes River dips at Riverbend Park from October to May.

Pick what you are after.

Whole-body cryotherapy

Two to three minutes in very cold, dry air. RISE Modern Wellness is the Bend option we could verify; it also offers localized cryo and CryoFacials. Ask whether the chamber is electric or nitrogen-cooled and whether staff stay with you the whole time.

  • Private vs. socialFlux’s private lounges ($355 for up to 8) can be cheaper per person for a group.

Safety: what the evidence and the FDA say

  • Benefits are unproven. The FDA says whole-body cryotherapy’s healing benefits are unconfirmed, and in 2016 warned that no device had been cleared to treat any condition. A 2023 international review of cryotherapy safety documented frostbite and other cold injuries.
  • Know the chamber type. Older nitrogen “cryosaunas” put your head above vapor that can lower oxygen; walk-in electric chambers use refrigeration instead. Never use a chamber alone.
  • Dry skin and covered extremities. Wet skin or sweat freezes fast. Wear the gloves, socks and ear covers provided.
  • Who should skip it: pregnancy, heart disease or recent heart attack, uncontrolled high blood pressure, Raynaud’s, cold urticaria, seizure disorders, open wounds, and children unless a doctor says otherwise.
  • Cold plunges: ease in, keep your head above water, stay in only a few minutes, and leave if you feel numb, dizzy or short of breath.

Plunging in the Deschutes? Go with others, stay in calm shallow water you know, never go under ice, and wear a life jacket in current. Cold shock can make even strong swimmers gasp and inhale water.

Questions to ask before your first session

  1. Is the chamber electric or nitrogen-cooled? Does my head stay inside or out?
  2. Will a staff member stay with me the whole time?
  3. What temperature and how long for a first session?
  4. What health questions do you ask before I start?
  5. What protective gear do you provide?
  6. How do you clean the chamber, plunge or pools?
  7. Is there a time limit, and can I leave at any point?
  8. What do memberships cost, and is there a minimum term?

Cryotherapy in Bend: common questions

Where can I get whole-body cryotherapy in Bend?

RISE Modern Wellness on SW Century Drive is the Bend studio we could confirm offering whole-body and localized cryotherapy as of October 2026. Several older cryo listings have closed. Call ahead, since its listed suite numbers differ.

How much does cryotherapy cost in Bend?

RISE offers new clients a 90-minute package with cryotherapy, compression, infrared sauna and red light for $79. Single-session cryo prices are not posted. Cold plunge options run from $20 for a first visit at Flux to $59 for a private plunge and sauna room at ChillWell.

Does cryotherapy help with recovery or pain?

The evidence is limited. Small studies suggest short-term relief of soreness for some people, but the FDA says whole-body cryotherapy’s healing benefits are unconfirmed and no device is cleared to treat a medical condition.

Is cold plunging better than cryotherapy?

Neither is proven to be better for health, but most recovery research has used cold water immersion. Cold plunges are cheaper and more available in Bend; cryo is drier and quicker. Both carry risks for people with heart conditions.

Who should not do cryotherapy?

People who are pregnant or have heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, Raynaud’s, cold allergy, seizure disorders or open wounds should skip it. Ask your doctor first if you have any chronic condition.

Is it safe to cold plunge in the Deschutes River?

It can be done carefully with others, in calm shallow water you know, for short dips. Cold shock is a real drowning risk. Gather Sauna House runs supervised community sessions at Riverbend Park in winter.
