Best Catering in Bend, Oregon

Nine Bend caterers checked against their own websites: full-service teams for weddings, on-site barbecue, a wood-fired pizza truck, paella cooked on your patio and open-flame cooking at the lake. Plus the real posted prices, what a quote should include, and the Bend-specific stuff: peak-season booking, fire rules, cold nights and alcohol licensing.

What are you planning?

Tap your event for where to start.

Wedding

Start with a full-service team that brings staff and a tasting: Bleu Bite (posted fees, tasting of up to 8 dishes) or Bowtie (plated, family-style or buffet). For a relaxed party, Swig & Stone’s pizza truck feeds up to 300.

Office or corporate

Recurring lunches: AlpenGlow’s business catering or Cody’s delivered lunch platters. A big conference or festival: Core Catering lists events up to 3,000 guests.

Holiday party

Book early for December weekends. Bleu Bite and Bowtie both list holiday parties; Cody’s sells holiday dinners for 4 to 15 people. Our holiday party catering guide has more.

Backyard party

Cody’s brings barbecue (and tents and heaters) to your place. La Paella Bend cooks paella on your patio for $43 a head. Pickup from Bleu Bite skips staffing costs.

Rehearsal or welcome dinner

Something casual and memorable the night before: wood-fired pizza and taps from Swig & Stone, paella cooked in front of everyone, or a local-game menu from Back to the Tables.

Lake, river or mountain

AlpenGlow cooks over flame from a trailer and packs boxed lunches for river and trail days. Swig & Stone’s truck needs a drivable, level spot. Read the fire rules first.

Lots of dietary needs

Dropping Beets designs menus around dietary preferences. Bowtie has gluten-free pasta; La Paella has a vegetable paella. Send real counts, not “a few vegetarians.”

Service styles, from cheapest to most staff

The service style drives the price as much as the menu, because staff hours and service charges scale with it.

Choosing a caterer by event type

Weddings

Book the venue first, then the caterer, and send the caterer the venue name before anything else: kitchen space, power and load-in change what’s possible. Ask what the wedding package covers. Bleu Bite’s, for example, includes a tasting, buffet setup with linens and risers, cake cutting, pouring the toast, a site visit when applicable, and plates to go for the couple; tents, lighting and dance floors are on you.

Deadlines to expect, from Bleu Bite’s posted terms: a $1,000 refundable deposit to sign, menu and final guest count two weeks out, and final payment two days before. Full deposit refund (minus fees) only if you cancel more than 30 days out.

Corporate events and office lunches

For a working lunch, speed and labeling matter more than presentation. Ask for individually labeled meals or a dietary key, delivery to the exact room, and invoicing that works for your accounting team. AlpenGlow takes recurring weekly lunch orders; Cody’s delivers lunch platters and complete hot meals and says next-day delivery is possible.

For off-sites and conferences, size up: Core Catering lists events from 30 to 3,000 guests. Our corporate events guide covers meeting rooms, retreat resorts and team-building in Bend.

Holiday parties

Book as soon as the venue is set: Visit Bend recommends 3 to 6 months of lead time for peak dates and weekends. Bleu Bite, Bowtie and Core Catering all list holiday parties, and Cody’s sells complete holiday dinners for 4, 6, 10 or 15 people. More options in our holiday party catering guide and holiday party venues.

Backyard parties

Decide who brings the tables, shade and heaters before you compare menus. Cody’s cooks barbecue on site and can bring tents, heaters and umbrellas. La Paella Bend brings its own cooking setup. Neighbors and HOA rules still apply. Need gear? See equipment rentals.

Rehearsal and welcome dinners

The night before the wedding is the place for something casual and interactive: Swig & Stone’s pizza truck with taps, paella cooked in front of the group, or a family-style local menu from Back to the Tables. Keep it with a different caterer than the wedding if you want variety.

Bend logistics: venues, season, fire and weather

Outdoor, ranch and mountain venues

Many Central Oregon events happen on lawns, ranches and lakeshores with no commercial kitchen. Ask the venue, then tell the caterer:

  • Is there a prep kitchen, or just power and a table?
  • Where can a truck or trailer park, and is the ground level and firm?
  • Water and power for the caterer, or do they bring a generator?
  • Load-in route and time, and the hard end time for breakdown
  • Does the venue require insurance or its own vendor list?

Distance costs money: Bleu Bite charges $40 to deliver to Redmond or Sunriver and up to $100 for Camp Sherman or Madras, and Swig & Stone adds a travel fee outside Bend.

Peak season and lead times

Visit Bend advises booking at least 3 to 6 months ahead, especially for large events, peak season and weekends. Some caterers book further out: Cody’s is taking 2027 and 2028 weddings. Small drop-off orders can happen in days.

Fire season and cooking flames

The City of Bend says small cooking fires are generally allowed year-round in the city and Rural Fire District #2, but any fire can be banned temporarily in extreme wildfire conditions. Check Bend’s burning rules or call the burn line at 541-322-6335 that week. If your caterer cooks over wood or charcoal (Swig & Stone’s oven, AlpenGlow’s coals), ask for a backup plan. Venues outside the district follow their own fire agency’s rules.

Cold nights and weather backup

Bend sits about 3,600 feet up. July averages a high near 84°F but a low near 49°F, and June and September lows are around 41–42°F (NOAA 1991–2020 normals). Plan heaters and a tent for an evening dinner, hold hot food covered, and have a wind and rain plan. Summer wildfire smoke can also move things indoors: see Visit Bend’s wildfire resources.

What catering costs in Bend, and what’s included

Most Bend caterers quote by request. These are the prices they actually post, as of October 23, 2026.

What drives the price

  • Guest count. Small groups can cost more per head: Bleu Bite adds 15% under 25 guests.
  • Service style. Staff hours plus a service charge that grows with the service level (0–20% at Bleu Bite).
  • Menu. Salmon costs more than chicken at AlpenGlow ($32 vs. $24); La Paella prices shellfish at market rate.
  • Distance and timing. Delivery fees outside Bend, and after-hours delivery fees at Bleu Bite.
  • The extras. Rentals, insurance, ice, coffee, trash removal and the bar.

Cody’s sums it up: quotes are “based on menu selection, number of guests, location, date and type of service.”

A quote should spell out

  • Food, with portions or quantities per guest
  • Chefs, servers, bartenders and an event manager, with hours
  • Service or operations charge, and what it is a percentage of
  • Gratuity: included, optional or separate from the service charge
  • Delivery or travel fees for your venue
  • Rentals: plates, flatware, glassware, linens, tables, chairs, tents, heaters
  • Setup, breakdown, dishwashing and trash removal
  • Cake cutting, the toast pour and coffee service
  • Bar: who supplies alcohol, ice, mixers and cups
  • Event insurance if the venue requires it
  • Overtime rate if the event runs late
  • Deposit, final-count deadline and cancellation terms

Dietary needs and allergies

Give the caterer real numbers: how many vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free meals, and which guests have serious allergies. “A few vegetarians” leads to too little food or the wrong food.

  • Celiac and severe allergies: ask how the food is prepared and kept separate, not only what’s in it. A naturally gluten-free dish isn’t the same as one prepared without cross-contact.
  • Buffets: ask for labels at every dish and separate serving utensils.
  • Plated or boxed: ask how special meals are marked so they reach the right person.

Options we saw posted: Dropping Beets builds menus around dietary preferences; Bowtie offers gluten-free pasta ($2 extra); La Paella Bend has a vegetable paella; Bleu Bite offers an organic-only option (20% more).

Alcohol and licensing: OLCC and Deschutes County

OLCC · alcohol

Who needs a liquor license?

  • Free drinks at a private party (a wedding or retirement party where nobody pays or donates): no license needed.
  • Selling drinks, or charging admission even if drinks are free: a license is needed.
  • A caterer or vendor providing alcohol service needs its own liquor license.
  • Servers who mix, serve or sell alcohol at a licensed business generally need an OLCC service permit.
  • Temporary event licenses: OLCC warns applications received less than two weeks before the event may not be processed in time, and they need a local government recommendation.

How Bend caterers handle it: Bleu Bite supplies OLCC-licensed bartenders and you supply the alcohol, mixers and garnishes; Swig & Stone offers a licensed bartender for its beer and wine taps.

Sources: OLCC: license vs. service permit · OLCC special event licenses

Deschutes County · food

Food licensing

  • Deschutes County Environmental Health licenses food service, and says you likely need a county license if you serve prepared food to the end consumer for on-site eating. That includes caterers and temporary event food service.
  • Serving food to the public at an event, even free food, can require a temporary restaurant license, even if you already hold a restaurant license. Single-event licenses last for the event or up to 30 days; intermittent up to 30 days; seasonal up to 90. Apply at least 7 days ahead for the discounted fee, and fees are due when you apply.
  • Mobile food units and food carts must be licensed and pass an inspection before operating.

Hiring an established caterer? Ask which license they operate under. Running food at a public event or market yourself? Start with the county.

Questions to ask a Bend caterer

  1. Are you free on our date, and have you worked at our venue?
  2. Which service style do you recommend for our guest count and timeline?
  3. What does your proposal include, line by line?
  4. How many staff will be on site, and for how many hours?
  5. Is a tasting included, and is it credited toward the contract?
  6. How do you handle allergies and celiac disease in the kitchen?
  7. What do you need from the venue: kitchen, power, water, a level spot for a truck?
  8. Can you cook on site if there’s a burn ban? What is the backup?
  9. What is the plan if it rains, blows or turns cold?
  10. Who handles rentals, and who returns them?
  11. When is the final guest count due, and can it change after that?
  12. What are the deposit and cancellation terms?
  13. If you serve alcohol: whose OLCC license is it under, and do your bartenders hold service permits?
  14. Is gratuity included, optional or separate?

Food trucks and casual catering

Pizzas on wooden peels in front of Swig & Stone’s wood-fired oven truck
Photo: Swig & Stone

A truck feels very Bend and can be cheaper than a staffed dinner. Before you book one, check:

  • Can the truck reach the spot, and is the ground level and firm enough?
  • Does the venue allow generators, and is quiet hour a problem?
  • How fast can one window feed your whole guest list?
  • Does the truck carry a county mobile food unit license?

Swig & Stone books weddings and parties for up to 300. For more trucks, see our Bend food trucks guide, plus pizza and taco guides for restaurants that may cater.

Frequently asked questions

How far ahead should I book a caterer in Bend?

Visit Bend recommends at least 3 to 6 months of lead time, especially for larger events, peak-season dates and weekends. Some caterers book further out: Cody’s Country Catering is already booking 2027 and 2028 weddings, and Swig & Stone is booking 2026 and 2027. Small drop-off orders can move much faster; Cody’s says next-day delivery is possible.

How much does catering cost in Bend?

Few Bend caterers post prices. Those that do: La Paella Bend charges $43 per adult for paella, salad, bread and a tapa; AlpenGlow’s wedding mains run $24 to $32 per person before sides and desserts; and Bleu Bite lists staff at $35 to $40 an hour plus a 0–20% operations charge depending on service level. Get itemized quotes so you are comparing the same things.

Do Bend caterers handle rentals like tables, tents and heaters?

Some do. Cody’s Country Catering says it can handle tables, chairs, tents, heaters and umbrellas. Bleu Bite runs rentals through Tabletops Event Rentals but does not coordinate tenting, lighting or dance floors. Ask each caterer what is included and put it in writing.

Do I need a liquor license to serve alcohol at my event?

Not for a private party where alcohol is free and you take no payment or donations, according to the OLCC. You do need a license if alcohol is sold or you charge admission. If a caterer or outside vendor provides alcohol service, the vendor needs its own liquor license, and servers generally need an OLCC service permit.

Can a caterer cook over an open fire in summer?

Usually inside Bend, but not always. The City of Bend says small cooking and recreational fires are generally allowed year-round in the city and Rural Fire Protection District #2, but can be banned temporarily during extreme wildfire danger, and debris burning is never allowed in city limits. Check bendoregon.gov/burninginfo or call 541-322-6335 the week of the event, and ask your caterer for a propane or off-site backup.

Which Bend caterers are best for dietary restrictions?

Dropping Beets builds menus around dietary preferences and offers nutrition coaching. Bowtie offers gluten-free pasta on its pasta bar ($2 extra), La Paella Bend has a vegetable paella, and Bleu Bite offers an organic-only option (20% more). For celiac disease or serious allergies, ask how food is prepared, not just what is in it.

What is the most affordable way to cater a Bend party?

Pickup or drop-off with no staff usually costs least. Bleu Bite’s “Party To Go” pickup carries no operations charge (staffed service adds 10–20%), and Bend and Tumalo delivery is free. Food trucks and taco or barbecue setups are other casual options. Bowtie notes buffets cost less in staff than plated or family-style service.

Can I hire a food truck for a wedding in Bend?

Yes. Swig & Stone serves wood-fired pizza from a 1953 Ford truck for up to 300 guests and books weddings, welcome parties and rehearsal dinners. Check the venue’s rules on vehicle access, parking surface and generators first, and see our Bend food trucks guide for more trucks.

How we checked this guide

Every caterer’s services, prices, service area and contact details were checked on October 23, 2026 against its own website, linked under each card. We dropped caterers whose sites were down or didn’t confirm current catering. Planning advice comes from Visit Bend’s catering guide (updated June 2026); fire rules from the City of Bend; weather from NOAA 1991–2020 normals for Bend; and licensing from the OLCC and Deschutes County Health Services.
